Monthly Focus - July 2012

Monthly Focus:  Using Food Storage when it's a CHOICE and not a NEED

Challenge:  Try using a recipe from the blog using long term food storage, then post one of your own

Here are a few links or you can search recipes, or food storage recipes on the right hand side of this blog where it says labels.

Chicken Divan
Broccoli Cheddar Pie & Cheese Dip

Emergency Essentials (BePrepared.com recipes)

When searching on LDS .org for information about long term food storage I came up with a list of the commonly perceived "longer-term" food storage items so I thought I'd  try and link you to a recipe I like for each one.   Please feel free to share your recipes too.  I'd love to leave my e-mail for you but then I end up with a bunch of spam from creepy blog lurkers so just leave a comment with a way to reach you or your first name, last initial and ward and I'll find you!  (REALLY I WILL!)  You can also e-mail me at ask_kanesville@yahoo.com, but PLEASE leave a comment saying you did because sometimes I forget to check that e-mail.

Wheat (30 + year shelf life) but you need a wheat grinder, at least for this recipe)  Whole Wheat Bread
White Rice (30 + year shelf life) Lemon Rice  - substitute bottled lemon juice
Corn (30 + year shelf life) Corn Chowder  - substitute dried veggies
Sugar (30 + year shelf life) - This one doesn't even seem fair most of my recipes contain sugar

Pinto Beans (30 year shelf life)  Pinto Bean Fudge
                                                       Chili

Rolled oats (30 year shelf life)  Honey Oat Bread
Pasta (30 year shelf life)  Baked Ziti - This is a misnomer, it's such a yummy recipe I use it as a starting off point, I usually use Penne pasta because it's what I have and frozen shredded cheese (usually a cheddar or taco blend) and you can use homemade yogurt cheese of powdered sour cream)  Pasta Salad
Potato flakes (30 year shelf life) - Crescent Rolls

Apple Slices (30 year shelf life) Apple Crisp, I haven't posted this recipe on the blog, but I've made it and love it, so I'm linking to another bloggers recipe Anissa's Kitchen

Non-fat powdered milk (20 year shelf life)Milkshake (think Wendy's Frosty)
Dehydrated carrots (20 year shelf life)
      -  You can add to any soup or slow cooker recipe
