Sisters,
Isn’t the world a crazy place sometimes? The scriptures tell us that, “…all things shall be in commotion; and surely, men’s hearts shall fail them; for fear shall come upon all people.” How
do we curb our fear and stand firm midst the commotion?
We can turn again to the scriptures for guidance. Helaman 5:12 says, “And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall.”
Christ is the foundation and the same Church He established on the earth has been restored for us today. Everything we need to withstand the shafts in the whirlwind and the hail in the mighty storms of life is found in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Do you believe it or not? Sister Bonnie L. Oscarson posed this question in her April 2016 conference talk, “Do I Believe”. Do we take the wonderful blessings of membership in the Lord’s church for granted?
Do we agree with Sister Oscarson’s statement, “We believe that this Church is more than just a good place to go on Sundays and learn how to be a good person. It is more than just a lovely Christian social club where we can associate with people of good moral standing. It is not just a great set of ideas that parents can teach their children at home so they will be responsible, nice people. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is infinitely more than all of these things.”
The Church IS more than these things. It is the only true Church on the earth. It is a church where we find apostles and prophets who have been called of God and have the authority to act and speak in God’s name. It is the Church where we find priesthood authority that makes it possible for us to receive ordinances and make covenants that allow us to be sealed as families and return to the presence of our Heavenly Father. It is the church where we find shelter from the storms and commotion that sometimes surround us. Do you believe it or not? I encourage you to ask yourself that question. What is the answer? How does your answer affect you – and your family – in your everyday life?
Sisters, I BELIEVE IT! I KNOW IT! It is my prayer that we can each strengthen our foundations in Christ – because if we have a strong foundation, we need not fear.
Love,
Michelle Holt - President
