Reading Volunteers needed

From a Volunteer Coordinator or United Way of Northern Utah

DO YOU HAVE AN HOUR EACH WEEK TO CHANGE THE LIFE OF A CHILD?

United Way of Northern Utah in cooperation with Ogden, Weber, Morgan, Box Elder and Davis school districts, is recruiting reading volunteers.  Imagine beginning a fourth grader unable to read your history book, your English book or your math word problems.  That student is destined to fall behind and eventually fail. This United Way Worldwide initiative targets third grade students who struggle in reading because after third grade, students are no longer learning to read, they are reading to learn.  For as little as one hour, once a week, you can help two students succeed by giving them one-on-one reading time.  United Way tutoring coordinators will train you and match you with students so you can watch them gain the confidence they need to stay in school and enjoy learning.  The initiative started as a third grade program, however tutors have been so successful they are being placed in all elementary grades, as needed.  Contact United Way of Northern Utah (801-399-5584) or go to their website at www.uwnu.org and link to the blue “Volunteer” banner to learn more.
