Powdered Milk Recipes

It's been awhile since I posted about powdered milk but I've recently been looking at some recipes and hints for using it and so I thought I'd share. First here is a link to my last post which had lots of information found on some of my favorite food storage sites.

 Powdered Milk

My goal was to make these recipes and have pictures and results to share with you but I'm still working on that if you try them out  (or all ready have) please share your results in the comments.

Magic Mix
2 1/3 C. Powdered Milk
1 C. Flour
1 C. Margarine or Butter, at room temperature

Combine dry milk, flour and margarine/butter into a large bowl.  Mix it until it looks like cornmeal.  Store in a tightly covered container in the fridge.

Magic Mix Pudding
½ C. Sugar
1 C. Magic Mix
2-3 T. Cocoa (optional)
2 C. Water
1 t. Vanilla

Combine Magic Mix, sugar and cocoa in saucepan and mix well.
Add water, stir over medium heat until pudding bubbles.
Add vanilla and beat.
Cover and Cool.

Cream of Chicken Condensed Soup Substitute
1 c. magic mix
2/3 c. chicken broth (made from bouillon is OK)
1 tsp. parsley flakes
dash of onion salt

Whisk over medium heat, stirring constantly.
Bring to a boil and remove from heat.
 ½ cup hot water
1 cup dry non-instant powdered milk or 2 cups dry instant powdered milk
1      cup sugar
1 T. butter

Combine ingredients in blender and blend until smooth.
Makes the equivalent of one 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk

Fudgy Magic Shell
1 Cup Semisweet Chocolate Chips
1/4 Cup Butter, cubed
3 Tbs. Evaporated Milk (1 Tbs. Dry Powdered Milk + 3 Tbs. Water)

In a pan, combine chocolate chips, butter and milk  Stir over low heat until chips are melted and mixture is smooth. Serve warm over ice Cream (Sauce will harden.) Sprinkle with almonds. Refrigerate any leftovers. Sauce can be reheated in the microwave. Yield: about 1 Cup.

Evaporated Milk
2/3 cup non-fat dry milk
3/4 cup water

Mix the water and dry milk powder together. Then, use in place of the evaporated milk in any recipe.
