How are you doing with the challenge?

Fruit, fruit, fruit, fruit . . . (hint - the August food storage challenge was to had some fruit to your food storage).

I found something to add to my food storage, how about you?

Macey's Case Lot sale has Mandarin Oranges for .39 a can and since my kids eat these like candy they seemed like an obvious choice for us.  I bought a few cases but probably should do more, since they really are a yummy fruit addition.

I also found some peaches for .49 a can at Kents, they were right at the end of their use-by date but I bought them anyway.  I admit to not being super particular about that so long as the cans aren't dented or rusty.  I also didn't buy too many.

Best of all fresh strawberries.  $4.99 a flat (8lbs) at Kents.  My first thought was to make jam but thanks to my awesome dad we're pretty well stocked for strawberry jam, so I rinsed and drained them and froze them whole (after we ate a couple of pounds of course).  Next winter I'll thank myself.

Another thing I think I 'm going to be thanking myself for buying.  50lbs of regular rolled oats and not enough buckets to hold them.  I HAD to make batches of Cowboy cookies to freeze for later.   Yummmmmmmm
