Taking "comfort" in Food Storage

Storing M & M's may not be as questionable as you might think.  When disaster hits, in whatever form, wouldn't it be nice to have a handful of candy to help you weather the storm.  Kay M. from the Foxglen Park ward canned peanut M & M's in 3 #10 cans and set them on her shelf.  Her purpose was to see how long they would last.  The goal was to open the first can one year from sealing it and each of the additional cans at 2 year and 3 year intervals respectfully.  I was one of the lucky people who got to try the M & M's that had been canned for one year.  They were DELICIOUS and tasted like a freshly opened bag.
If you think you might like to try this, candy will go on sale right after Valentines.  It may be pink and red and white, but who cares.  The stake owns a sealer, so all you have to do is purchase your cans and lids and call one of the Stake Relief Society sisters to use it.  Of course, it would only be appropriate to give us a handful of peanut M & M's for our time.
