Spaghetti and Breadsticks

Here’s a really easy "food storage" meal that is a regular menu item at our house.

Spaghetti and bread sticks

We have both home canned and store bought sauce in the storage room and a bin full of spaghetti noodles.  Adding a little hamburger from the freezer makes for a more filling dinner.  We store raw hamburger in Ziploc baggies ( I will now be flattening it out - great idea) but also cooked hamburger that I’ve frozen on cookie sheets and then put into baggies (this saves a few minutes when you need a quick meal).  Recently I bought a 12 pack of Parmesan cheese on Amazon and so now we have to get to eat it on everything.

Breadstick recipe
1 Tbsp yeast                         1 Tbsp Honey
1 ½ cups warm water       1 tsp salt
3 to 4 cups of flour

Dissolve yeast in warm water.  Stir in remaining ingredients and let rise 10 min.  Knead (I use my kitchen aid for a few minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic).  Roll out on a cookie sheet.   Spread with melted butter and sprinkle with garlic salt and Parmesan cheese.  Use a pizza cutter to cut into strips.  Let rise 10 minutes.  Bake at 350 for 20 minutes.

Monthly Focus - March 2012 - Store What you Eat

It's almost March, time for a new monthly focus and a challenge!

Monthly Focus:  STORE WHAT YOU EAT
Challenge:  SHARE A FOOD STORAGE MEAL ON THIS BLOG

Here's your mission, if you choose to accept it (cue theatrical music here . . . )
                   there is a reward involved . . .

Share those meal ideas . . .  It is NOT a go to the store day and you have to put dinner on the table what do you serve?    (No, take out does not count - what can you pull from you 3-month supply)

Ramen anyone?

Leave a comment, send me an e-mail or call Kristi H in Regal Country ward and I'll share your ideas here (recipes are appreciated or at least the details of how you make the meal, and why your family likes it).   Make sure you leave me your address* (NOT TO BE POSTED, not in a comment) so that I can bring you your treat . . . bribes work with my kids maybe they'll work here as well.
